My daughter has impetigo should my pregnant girlfriend be in contact with her?

My daughter has impetigo should my pregnant girlfriend be in contact with her?

It's the drainage from the rash that contains the Staph or Strep bacteria that cause impetigo. It's most commonly caused by Staphylococcus aureus but is also caused by Streptococcus pyogenes. The most common form of impetigo is impetigo contagiosa. There is also bulbous impetigo and ecthyma, a more serious form.

Impetigo is seldom serious and minor infection clear up on their own in 2-3 weeks but infections can lead to complications. So, they're often treated with an antibiotic, either topical or systemic (oral) or both. One is usually noncontagious after having been on antibiotics for 24 hours but rely on what the doctor says.

Your girlfriend isn't at risk for contracting impetigo unless your daughter is not being treated, has been treated for less than 24 hours AND your girlfriend has direct contact with the sores on your daughter's face and then touches her own face.

It's contagious only with direct contact. The bacteria cannot "jump" or "fly" from one person to another. To prevent the spread to you and your girlfriend, and to prevent reinfection of your daughter, be sure to wash her clothing, bedding, towels and any contaminated toys separately and daily in hot water. EVERYONE, adult and child, should be using good hand hygiene and washing frequently, especially after contact with sores.

Impetigo is highly contagious so nobody should be in direct contact with her. Everyone in the house should wash their hands regularly, especially of course your daughter, and she shouldn't touch her scabs. I got impetigo on my face when I was in my teens. I'm not sure if it's particularly harmful for pregnant women, though.

It is highly contagious-- a type of staph infection. The good thing is that if she did contract it during pregnancy that the antibiotics for it are perfectly safe during pregnancy.

Impetigo is generally not a risk to an unborn child, but since it can lead to other complications it is best to steer clear.

no..impetigo is very contagious...you need to take your daughter to a dr if u haven't already and have your girlfriend have as little contact with her as possible until it is gone...but to be honest...your daughter could give it to you and then you to your gf also..just be very careful and wash your hands

Impetigo is spread only by direct contact. Parents or caretakers should keep children with active infections away from school and away from other children in the household.

Infected children should not share towels or washcloths with others. The towels, sheets, and clothing of those with impetigo should be thoroughly laundered. The adults taking care of the infected child should wash their hands with soap and water after contact with the lesions.

no it is highly contagious while the sores are open and oozing with direct contact to the person or bedding clothing towels toys etc and easily spread staph or streph if not managed properly
wash everything with hot water and bleach or disinfectant
meticulous hand washing

No, regardless of being pregnant or not, Impetigo is highly contagious. Be sure that all linens, clothing, pillows etc. are washed and placed either in a dryer. Be sure that proper hand washing is being done, for everyone.Impetigo spreads quickly. Antibiotics are required, either in tablet form or as an ointment ( both are usually prescribed). Healing should take place in about 5 days.Any loose crusts should be gently washed off with soap and water, pat the area dry, do NOT rub dry. I hope this helps.
