Is it safe to give a young child an immunization when they're already sick? |
My 2-year-old recently had bronchitis. I brought her to the doctor because of the high fever, etc ... after pulling up her charts, they discovered she was (or would be in the next week or so) due for some crazy immunization shot that I had never heard of. They said it would be more convenient for them to give it to her right then and there. I disputed it, as kindly as possible, because previous shots have made her run fever and get really irritable. The doctor, nurses, etc. got really upset at me for "challenging their decision" and rarely speak to me anymore, in or out of the office. Who was right? If a doctor EVER gets upset at you questioning them, they are automatically in the wrong. Part of their job is KNOWING. Whether or not it was dangerous isn't really the issue, but if they cannot give you a scientific reason that it is safe, then why should you listen to them? Because they have a piece of paper that says so? Please! Immunizations should never be given when one is ill so not sure why these professionals were insisting to give one. You have a legal right to refuse treatment so you were definately in the right. |
