Do you know smoking destroys the immune system and arthritus is an immune disorder meaning smoking makes arthu

If you're talking about Osteoarthritis; the most common arthritis that causes the middle-aged and elderly pain you are very much incorrect. Osteoarthritis in not an immune disorder.

In fact, smoking may decrease your immune system's ability to cope with disease but it will NOT cause an autoimmune process. Autoimmune diseases: when the body's own immune system attacks itself. They are complex diseases, and cannot be caused by smoking.

Smoking can cause some joint pain via different pathways, and can quicken aging thereby making arthritis more apparent. But still not the culprit.

Of course smoking is bad for everyone. It causes more primary and secondary disease than almost anything else. Unfortunately, you can't add Osteoarthritis to the list.

Update: After receiving e-mails regarding the subject I wish to make clear that smoking cannot primarily cause osteoarthritis. A lot of people e-mailed about infectious arthritides (plural of arthritis), and that is a different topic. An argument could be made that smoking is a secondary cause, but not because of immune suppression.
Note: Inflammation/swelling from osteoarthritis is not an affect of a poor immune system. That's not even the correct pathway. Swelling (in this situation) is not foreign to the body. Excess cells will be removed via circulation and lymphatic drainage. I hope this clears things up.

yes those are pretty much basic health facts.

I_Spearedyou - have you helped a friend today?

where did you get that information I have never heard that before.

did you know I dont care?

Oh really, well that sweetens the pot.

Diabetes, Thyroid disease, Asthma, and Lupus are all also autoimmune diseases. Believe me, you don't want any of those in your life either.

I never heard this b4 either. My grandmother smoked for years. She quit @ 60 something & she does suffer from rheumatoid arthritis. Thank you 4 the info. I do smoke off & on so I guess I will try 2 completely stop.

I've meet alot of people that have alot of diseases (chronic Pain Mgmt) not one has smoked their whole life. This runs in family, inherited!!!! Look at aids that's an immune disorder too and smoking has nothing to do with that either..
