I have Ulcerative Colitis, suffer from Blotting, could advice me on what to eat?

I have born with Immune system disorder, so I have Uvitis in the eyes, I have Primary Sclorosis Cholangities (PSC),and Ulcerative Colities. and I am gaining a lot of weight and whatever I eat gives me hard time to digest, lot of blotting, and gas. Please help me learn what to eat, so I suffer less. I am currently taking 6 Asacal, and 4 Ursodox.

Try bland, low residue food, stick clear of alot of red meat, its hard to digest even for healthy people, let alone someone with a complaint, make sure you drink alot of water, as you have a tendency to dehydrate. Eat small amounts often instead of sitting down to a big meal, so not so much for the bowel to take in, i hope this helps, good luck.

Not a doctor...so....

anyway, my dad has ulcertive colitis...the doctors wanted to cut his intestines out, put in a collostomy bag and such.

He decided on his own research, against doctors advice, to NOT get that surgery, and instead began taking bulk fiber with whatever he ate, whenever he ate. The off brand of metamucil or benifiber works great. You will have to experiment with what ratio works for you though. It is the only natural latative that actually is healthy and unlike others...it doesn't irritate the mucusal lining (so causing long term side effects). What is does is bulks up your food (absorbing water....so need to drink lots of water) making your stool more soft, not sharp or hard on an irritated system.

This idea (of taking bulk fiber like metamucil) is finally getting some recognition, though not too much yet, by doctors as a really good way to reduce cholesterol, reduce chances of getting colon cancer or polps, and as a way of treating ulcertive colitis. Unfortunately, most doctors don't yet recognize its value. It saved my dad so much. He was in the hospital all the time, and now he's in absolutely great health.

It takes a while for some people's your body to get used to it, so, at first just take the recommened dosage. You can increase it/ titrate to effect. Don't take too much or irreg. b/c if you're intermittent, what you're doing is trapping food...and this can give you cramps or gas. Just take it reguarly. Think about it. You really should try it. Give it a couple wks. Takes a while to take effect. Not an overnight miricle cure...but the closest you're prob going to get.

You should also avoid caffienated bvg, drink lots and lots of water, don't suddenly change your diet (..this is a stressor on your GI) tract..but slowly transition over ), keep it very low on carbs....
Ask your doctor if your medication is possibly whats causing the bloating and such. A lot of the medications they give for this disease do just that. Drinking more water and avoiding caffiene and the bulk fiber will all help that. As well as avoiding stress. Hope you feel better soon.

For years I lived on high dosages of Prednisone and 2.4 grams of asacol. Pointless, worthless (do more damage than good) medicines!

I have chronic ulcerative colitis. Please check out my post on yahoo answers regarding the disease and how to improve your health without the above.

Best of luck to you, and better health! If you or anyone else has any questions, please feel free to write, I'm all too happy to help.
