Ileostomy problems? |
I have just had a ileostomy a while back and i am having a few problems. I have these red lumpy things round it and its bleeding all the time. And i am sure the stoma is sometimes a shadowy black its very light so its hard to tell if its there or not-could it just be a shadow from the lines in the stoma? And it gets really sore and tender from time to time is it normal? Anyone else got one email so i can get advice lilyryder@yahoo.co.uk You need to speak to your surgeon or physician. This could be a lot of different things and it's hard to tell what the problem might be. Please seek medical advice. My daughter has a gastrostomy through which she is fed into her stomach. I know it is not the same as your condition but it is still a stoma. You should really go and see your doctor as the stoma should not be irritated, bleeding, swollen or sore. It could be you have a slight infection or maybe the tissue around the stoma is trying to granulate. What ever it is your stoma should resemble the rest of your skin and should be pain free. Go and get some medical advice, (do you not have a specialist stoma nurse?). When my daughter has had an infection around her stoma it has started to spread quite quickly so don't leave it any longer. These things are usually sorted out very quickly and easily. My daughter has had her stoma for 8 years and we have never had a problem we couldn't sort out with it. Once you get used to it it becomes part of your daily routine. Good luck. |
