What is a diverting loop ileostomy (double barrel)? |
What is a diverting loop ileostomy (double barrel)? its usually done to rest your bowels, like if you just underwent an operation. they'll incise part of your bowel and make a connection to the outside, so that stool passes out through a hole in your abdomen called a stoma. the double barrel is when they make 2 stomas, one for the passage of stool, and the other one for the passage of mucoid material Adding on to the previous reply, an ileostomy is when they do this with the small intestine. A section of the bowel is brought to the outside. A bag is worn over the stoma to collect faeces. The operation is reversed once sufficient time has elapsed. |
