Ok, the first thing you should know is DO NOT try to prevent wind by not eating. Not eating just creates more gas.

There are certain foods that tend to create more gas for ostomates than others. Have a look at http://www.ostomates.org/diet.html for a list of the more common foods. There's also a list there of foods that can thicken stool.

You will never completely prevent the wind. It's a part of the gut's natural process. If my stoma does happen to make a noise, I just excuse myself by saying it's my tummy rumbling cos it's hungry (it IS coming from the front of me after all, and there's no tell-tale odour to give the game away).

Also ask your doctor if you're allowed to take Metamucil. A lot of ostomates take it to thicken up stool as well.

Good luck!
