I have an ileostomy.?

can anyone advise me of swimwear to cover and keep the bag secure. dying to go swimming with kids but cant find anything to wear. sarongs dont work in the water they are to see through. thinking of skort or similar, that might hold the bag in place and cover scarring. i am still young and cant find a thing. can anyone please advice me. greatly appreciated

Ask your 'stoma nurse' assuming you were allocated one when you had the surgery, if there is not one call the hospital and ask. I seem to remember a temp stoma cover could be fitted for a short period of time.
I put into the search engine 'ileostomy swimwear' and came up with a load of sites may be you have tried them too.

Sorry I can't of any more help than that, good luck.

I wear a one piece bathing costume with a pattern or a splash of colour on it that goes over the stoma site. The pattern disguises any slight bulge which may be seen. In 31 years no one has ever said they can see my ostomy through my bathing suit.

A lot of ostomates like the tankini style costumes too and find they work well.

I don't do anything special with my wafer before swimming but a lot of ostomates like to 'picture frame' their wafer with water proof tape for security. Others like to blow dry the wafer when they get out of the water although, personally, I find sunbaking dries it just as well.

If you're not sure whether your bag and wafer is up to the job or not, try soaking in a bath tub for 1/2 hour before venturing into the pool. This test should let you know whether the wafer you're using will stay stuck in the water whilst swimming.
