What is Amitriptyline used for ? |
I have an ileostomy and a get abdominal pains sometimes when i eat , strain myself or even walking or standing to long... i wa son vicodin for almost 2 months and now they referred me to pain management and they gave me Gabapentin and Amitriptyline. Back in the 70s it was used in high doses as an anti-depressent. Now, it's mostly used for anxiety, sleep issues, and low-grade pain. They might be using it to try and help you relax. Amitriptyline is given in low doses for various pain syndromes. At high doses, it is given for depression, but has lots of side effects at the high doses. Hi, it is sometimes used in low doses for pain and in higher doses it is used for depression. It has some lousy side-effects! It is an antidepressant/mood elevator which usually causes deeper sleep by relaxation. The idea being less stess, more relaxed, less focus on pain. Its an antidepressant but given in low doses helps relieve pain. |
