Has anyone out there recently had a Sub Total Colectomy? |
After being diagnosed with Ulcerative Colitis three years ago and not really understanding about the disease, I carried on quite normally with minimal flareups that as quick as they came, they disappeared! I had a normal pregnancy and birth last year and had never needed medication. And bang this January, I got my first flareup which was treated with Asacol and steroids and the disease quickly quietened down completey, only to have another huge flareup in July this year which hospitilized me and resulted in a sub total colectomy to be reversed at some point next year. I now have an ileostomy and am coping and recovering superbly! It was all quite a shock as everything did happen really quickly to me and drugs were not helping the conditon. I had the sigmoidoscopy and colonoscopy. The colonsopy was done shorty after the second flareup started to errupt and the conditon of the colon at that point was'ent too bad, I think it got a bit worse for them to operate. Mistakenly diagnosed is too common, better see more different doctors for reference of our own. I am one of the victims too. |
