I had a total colectomy, can I have anal sex?

I had a total colectomy, resulting in an ileostomy. I still have a rectal stump. Is it possible for me to have anal sex?

Serious answers only, please!

If I were you I wouldnt try it, it isnt worth what might happen.

Yes...in fact, please do. Or should that be please do do?

I'm *not* totally familiar with your surgeries, but you still have an opening, right? And pardon the term, but some depth? I assume it would be possible, though it might hurt at first. Good luck!

I would hold off.... check with your doctor you don't want hurt yourself or risk some crazy embarrassment. Try and research the procedure. I don't know enough about it to really judge but I would wait a few days.

ask a doctor. I've read that there are some serious risks involved with anal.

Anything is possible. If you enjoy what you are doing well thats up to you. But if you are only trying to satisfy your partner dont go through the pain and maybe suffering with internal pain or injury for him. If he wants to do so and is on your back and has no quilt of being a grubby fella, he ant worth it. I couldnt do it to a woman who had been through that, unless she really wanted it. Is it really worth it. Do other things.

NO it's an exit not an entrance

Probably not recommended that that surgery. You may have a stump but doubt that it can take the "punishment" that will go along with anal sex.

hi astra, i am a female ileostomate like yourself. I've had my bag for 21 yrs. At our support meetings we have had sex therapists, colorectal surgeons, and GIs speak to our organization.

It is advisable to not have anal sex because it can tear the tissue inside.Plus, I don't know if your surgery was due to Crohns, Ulcerative Colitis, or cancer, but if it's IBD (crohns/colitis) the disease can still come back in that area after surgery and when a foreign body enters, it can aggrivate the affect area plus cause an infection & make the illness worse. You don't want anything that is not clean in your bottom.

Ostomates can have normal intercourse like anyone else. There is special clothing out there for intimate moments as well as pouch covers. if you call the united ostomy association of america, they can guide you in the right direction. (see site below)

I've been married for 10 yrs. and it hasn't been a problem for me at all.
