Hysterectomy?? One ovary or both, doesn't it all go??? |
I'm 31yrs old and due to "issues" I being booked for a Hysterectomy. I thought that meant everything goes?? My Gyne Doctor said he'll probably take both ovaries but if at all possible he'll try and leave one. Is it still a Hysterectomy? Will I go into menopause? I'm asking alot but I'm confused, any help would be great..Thanx Ovaries produce the hormones that would normally exist until menopause. If you lose both of them you will instantly begin menopause with symptoms such as hot flashes, mood changes and higher risk of osteoperosis. I think the estrogen also provides a benefit for heart health. You would typically need to go on hormone replacement therapy which is often very challenging to get right. Your periods will stop with a hysterectomy, but it would be best to keep the hormones. you should ask this to your gyne doctor. |
