Hysterectomy at 31? No chidren yet?

Please help me. I thought I had gall stones and after an ultrasound it turned out to be fibroids in my uterus. Several. I have had pain in my side for months. Sometimes so bad I can't even walk. The doctor told me she wants another ultrasound to monitor the growth. At that time I will be talking to a specialist. I have read up about it and a lot of information says that hysterectomies are commonly done for fibroid removal! The other option would be myectomy (not sure of spelling) this option is risky because of the loss of blood and is normally only done if you have a couple of fibroids. I need your help on finding alternatives. My husband and I want children. I have already had a miscarriage because of this and I am devistated! I really hope that there is something that can shrink them or make them go away without having a hysterectomy. I have no children and would be devestated if I couldn't have any. Please help! Please tell me that I am worrying about nothing.

Thank you so much for all your answers! They give me comfort and hope! :)

I've had them for years, as did my mother and older sister. I'm 42 and my uterus is intact - probably because I was on birth control pills for a long time. The pill seemed to keep the discomfort to a minimum. My mom and sister didn't use the pill and both had hysterectomies by the age of 40.

Talk to your gyn and see what your options are. If the first suggestion is hysterectomy, find another doctor!

I would get a second opinion. Call the alternative dr from this website and get his opinion. He is known world wide.

I had a hysterectomy for the very same reason. I was done having children, though.
So... as far as I know you cannot shrink them. They have to be surgically removed. If you do not opt to have your uterus removed with them you will probably have a reoccurance. As far as getting pregnant your chances are slim as it is.
If it were me, I would have the fibroids removed, try to get pregnant, and take my chances of having them come back later. You can always have a hysterectomy when you're older.

So sorry. It's not good news either way, is it?
Hugs.

i also have gall stones they must remove the stones from the affected area or as u said it is a fibroids they will remove ur uterus and not the rest of ur child bearing organs but if you have to have a hysterecomy dont worry i have had a full one over 30 years ago you will best be a bit sore for a while and wont be able to work for 3-6 months but once you are well you will feel like a new woman and it will save you or ur partner a lot of money

I know it is hard but you have to think positive. You don't know for sure what the doctor is going to suggest. There are other ways besides a hysterectomy to get rid of fibroid. Don't make any assumptions until you go to the specialist.

Good luck!

Just remember that having children is a blessing and a curse at the same time. Also adoption is Always an option. I don't have children myself but, I can borrow a few anytime I feel the need to nurture.

When my mother was 44 (she's 48 now), she went to the gyno and the doctor told her "congratulations, you are three months pregnant!" My mom was like, "What?!?! Is it the second coming of Christ? I haven't had sex in three years!!!!" Turns out it was a fibroid the size of a three month old fetus!!! Pretty big! The doctor wanted to schedule a hysterectomy. My mom is into holistic therapy (but she's not an idiot, so she does go to the doctor for regular check-ups). So she did her homework.

She went to an endocrinologist (Dr. Platt, located in Palm Springs, CA). He started her on a regiment of estrogen cream and some other stuff and shrunk that fibroid to the size of a pea. That's right. From three month old fetus sized to pea sized! She is no longer a candidate for a hysterectomy! Yeah for Mom! She's 48, and doesn't want any more kids... she says I was more than enough... (harrumph! I was a good kid!).

Anyway, the point is this. They will want to try to shrink your fibroid before surgery.... my mother's thought? If they can shrink it before surgery... then why can't they shrink it away? Yeah. Makes sense to me!!!! Check it out for yourself. Try to find a good endocrinologist and see what your options are before you let anyone get near you with a mask of gas and a scalpel.

They can do oblation, but it is dangerous and can cause burns if the doctor is inexperienced. I wouldn't go for the hysterectomy at all. Either demand surgery to remove just the cysts or oblation. You are too young to do this.

Red Root is an herb known to shrink fibroids & other cysts. It is more effective on fluid cysts, but I've seen it work on fibroids too. It is a major component of a remedy by Herbs, Etc. called "Lymphatonic" http://www.herbsetc.com/Shopping/l/lymph...
I recommend the liquid extract. If you can't stand the taste, put it in 1/4 cup of orange or grape juice. Discontinue use if you suspect you are pregnant.

Also Vitex berry is excellent to balance hormone levels, which often causes fibroids to go away (or shrink to insignificance) on their own. Vitex is known to help women who've had trouble conceiving. It is not recommended in pregnancy, but lots of women have taken it up to the time they discovered they were pregnant at 2-3 months. You can get it in a liquid extract also. Liquids work better because they aren't dependent on the digestive system to be absorbed properly.

go see a naturopathic physician now.find info at www.healingchoicesonline.com

I know this is devastating news for you and you feel like,"why me". but please be glad it was discovered in time.
If you have already had one
miscarraige, you probably would have little hope of carrying a pregnancy to normal delivery.
A hysterectomy which removes uterus only (if possible) is probably your best alternative. If you don't do it
now, it can get cancerous
very fast.
There are millions of children who desperately
need a loving home. You don't have to go overseas
either, we have gobs of them
here...just wanting someone
to love them.
I'm praying all will go well
for you and you will find just
the perfect child(ren) for you and hubby. Much love.

I would try the herb called, Vitex, the actual ingredient is chaste berries. It was recommended to me by my local natural health food store. I had cysts on my ovaries and it dried them up and I got pregnant. This article also mentions uterine. It worked for me and I pray it works for you. God Bless =)
