Hysterectomy recovery time?

I am going through the process for a hysterectomy. My kids are both in school full time so I thought if I got it done once out of the hospital is it feasable for me to still take them to school etc. I do not have to lift them, it would just mainly be helping them get ready, they are 6 and 8 and pretty much do it themselves then pack a lunch and take them, then I would have all day to rest until time to pick them up.
My friends says no, but I think it would be fine. I have to have a abdominal, my uteruss is to far back for vaginal. Even so I had to carry on after my youngest on my own, hubby only took off 1 day and I had a 2 yr old. Obviously I know it will hurt a lot more but they are pretty self sufficient at this age, at least when I am sick they are.
So what are your thoughts, if you have actually had a hysterectomy that is. I am not too concerned over housework I know my hubby will help out that way.

Its such a personal question, I mean each of us is so different in pain management and endurance. The average time is 4-6 weeks with some women needing up to 8 weeks. Don't kid yourself, you can't take your kids to school for at least 2 weeks, you are not supposed to drive and you won't be able to walk much. The pain of an abdominal operation is very difficult to explain but you will need all the rest you can get even if you are a tough lady. Also if you over exert yourself recovery time will just prolong. Try finding a friend who can assist you with taking the kids to school until you feel strong enough and able to go out, please do not rush. I had hysterectomy too.
