Hysterectomy at 40 keep ovaries or get rid of them? |
I am set up for a hysterectomy come may. My doc doesnt want to take my overies due to the hormones replacments causing cancer. I do however have ovarian cancer in my extended family such as my grandma, great aunt, and Aunt. My Moms ma turned 90 recently and never has a hysterectomy should i talk with my doc more and tell him to rid the overies due to my family history? Or should i rid them since breast cancer from the hormone replacement will be easier to detect than ovarian if the overies are left behind I am not sure what is considered normal overies. I have every problem with my female organs there is, except for cancer, thank god. I am thinking if the rest of it is messed the overies proabley are or will be in time Since you do have a history of ovarian cancer, I think you should discuss this more with your doctor. Breast cancer is much easier detected than ovarian cancer and in most cases it is also easier to sure and has a higher survival rate. You really need to go with the best medical opinion on this. If you want a second opinion, by all means get a second and a third. If they are normal, keep them and avoid premature menopause. Keep them! You will not have to take hormone replacements which could cause cancer. |
