Who has had a hysterectomy after a tubiligation?

I had a tl 10 years ago. Since then my periods have gotten worse and worse. It's to the point now where I'm in so much pain, I miss at least one day a month from work. I have several friends that had tl's and after about 7-12 years they all had hysterectomies. I just got health insurance that won't take effect for about 30 days or so. What are the chances that my dr. will recommend hysterectomy? Why did you have your's? What experiences did you have to seek medical attention after your tl? How long after your tl did you have your hysterectomy? Also, how much better did you feel after the hysterectomy?

In your answer, please let me know if you had a partial or total hysterectomy.

After my TL, my periods got progressively worse. I ignored treatment for a long time. Finally, I told my gyn I was sick of the mess. She did a whole bunch of tests, including a trans-vaginal ultrasound and endometrial biopsy. She gave me the option of birth control pills (I hated them), hysterectomy, or endometrial ablation (D&C, then the inside of the uterus is cauterized). This was 7 years after my TL

I chose the ablation. I had it last December, and I have not had a single problem since I recovered. I have no periods, and I didn't have as major or invasive a surgery as the hyster. They found my uterus was filled with disordered endometriosis - the root of my problem.

If you doctor will not recommend hyster or e.a., find another doctor. You're not fertile any longer, and you have no need for your uterus!

I had a tl at age 26 and a hysterectomy at age 43 due to heavy blood loss from fybroid cysts... actually 3/4 of my blood was lost and I had to have blood transfused so it was automatic on the dr.s part to tell me I had to have the hysterectomy after "building" the rest of my blood up. I felt so much better it was pathetic, should have had the hysterectomy before the tl. I can't say enough good about it. I also went without hormones quickly. I had like three hot flashes and have nothing but evil to say about hormones... let's just say that I think better without them and wish I'd done it sooner. And my hysterectomy got infected too and I still do not regret it for one minute. I only regret giving those years and years to life without the hysterectomy. Long live hysterectomies. and the women who chose to have them.
