Hysterectomy at 20! Will I still be able to have sex??

I need help, I was informed by my GYN that I might have to have a hysterectomy due to a cyst disorder. I am 20 years old! I feel kinda embarrassed about asking this but when I have a hysterectomy will I still be able to have a normal sex life?? Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

thanks to all who are answering, the reason why I am asking on here instead of my ob/Gyn is because when I asked at the doctors office they told me that "it was not the pressing concern that I should have" I was kinda taken aback and felt stupid for asking them since they were looking at me like I was some sort of sex fiend or something (which I am not). long story short: they pretty much inadvertently told me that it was not a relevant question and made me feel bad about asking...so I asking around to see what others think!

A hysterectomy removes your uterus. You will no longer be able to bear children but you will and can ABSOLUTELY have a normal sex life...and no birth control necessary!!

Make sure you ask the doctor to try to leave you at one ovary if possible. You should have a normal sex life when you heal. If it causes you any discomfort use lubricants. Good luck.

Oh dear you are so you and I am so very sorry. Yes you certainly can have a normal sex life.No difference at all other you won't get pregnant and that can make it even more enjoyable.And by all means do not feel embarrassed as there are allot of women having same problems as you. In hysterectomy, ONLY your uterus are surgically removed so there's no reason that you can't have sexual intercourse. I guess you should be more worried about not giving birth.

yes you can have all the vaignal/anal/oral sex in the world without getting pregnant. but be reminded that it wont protect you from contracting sexually transmitted diseases.
hysterectomy is a surgical procedure that removes your uterus. the vaginal canal remains. the surgeon closes the distal end of the canal.
with your uterus removed, you wont be having your monthly menstruations. none of the typical hypogastric pains anymore. your ovaries remain intact too.
you're partner wont know that you had your uterus removed unless he's gonna be able to observe a surgical scar in your abdomen

Hello Honey! I'm sorry you have been feeling bad. But, guess what... I have great news! I to had a hysterectomy early in life. I stayed in pain due to pain from cyst on my tubes and ovaries. I noticed a difference in my well being as soon as I woke up from surgery. You'll see. As for your sex life, it's all how you see things. In the beginning I took prescription hormones but never found one to my chemistry satisfaction. I've been taking 'Estroven', you can find it At Wal Mart. It's all natural, you take at night before bed.
Now the best news of all... yes you will still have a normal sex life... mine has been better than ever.... seriously. My husband says so anyway.

Oh hell yeah cause you dont have to worry about getting preggers, but still practice safe sex cause there are diseases out there.I loved it after my hysterectomy,I felt free, but also not having periods was the best part,dont miss them at all,nope nope!!! lol

I am sorry that you have to go thru this... this must be very painful for you. I have issues with cyst too, but it's not as serious as yours. you will still have a normal sex life, you just won't be able to get pregnant or have a period. God Bless You, and Good Luck1
