Hypothyroidism.? |
I was recently diagnosed with hypothyroidism.. i've only know about it for about 2 months. I haven't been to the doctor since then. But I am having a really hard time losing weight. I'm practically starving myself, and this medicine does make you hungrier. I have also been excercising. I had a big glass of water and several green teas yesterday and I got on the scale last night and I gained 6 lbs. So that kind of got me down. I guess the medicine makes you retain water. I've gained about 20 lbs from this... at the moment I weigh 166.5 and I am 5'5, and currently none of my jeans fit me and same with most of my shirts. I know I can't increase my dose any further b.c I've already started taking 12.5 MCG more this week then what the doctor prescribed me. Simply b.c I had been taking 25 mcg for a month and it really wasn't doing much for me. I take Levothroxine. I know some of you make think I shouldn't have increased my medicine without my doctor's permission. But you must understand that with thyroid medicine a lot of the time you have to pay attention to how the medicine is making you feel. B.c if you are taking too much you will feel hyper, have a high heart right, heart palpatations, lose weight rapidly, and just get sick. And then if you don't take enough you go hypo and you'll feel tired, constipated, weak, and gain weight. I was feeling a bit hypo, that's why I decided I needed to increase my dose a bit. I was just diagnosed with this so it might take me a bit to get my dose adjusted to the right amount... Your dosage should be adjusted every 6 weeks or so with the goal of getting the first thing in the morning TSH around 1.0. Failure to get it around 1.0 will result in difficulty losing weight. |
