Hypothyroidism? Can you still lose weight? |
I just found out today that I have hypothyroidism . I was just wondering, is it Impossible for me to lose weight? No it is not impossible. You may have to work a little harder at it but do NOT let it be an excuse to be overweight. As long as you take your prescription just like you are told and get your levels checked every 3-6 months to ensure you are taking the right dose, you should be fine. Make it a point to walk everyday, drink a lot of water and avoid processed foods. yes of course Please keep the junk in the trunk but you could lose everything else yes i suppose, if not, u ccan always become anerexic no I have had this condition for over 20 years and you must maintian your medication or it will become a problem. the medicine they give you is a supplement to what your thyroid makes and if you take it every day it will be as thought your thyroid is at full function and weight loss will be up to your diet and excercise regiment alone. good luck and dont be afraid its not a big deal Yes you can, but you need a special perscription from your DR. to treat your condition first. ~~~~~~~~yes!!!!!!!!!!!! any body con lose weight~~~~~~~~~~ if your doctor has prescribed and meds, please take them. they will not make you gain weight. you can lose weight if you really want to the old fashioned way, eating right and exercising. the only way. however you must take your meds. between the thyroid gland and pituitary gland things must work right in order for your body to work right. Please take the meds and start eating better and just walking helps a lot. been there, done that and then let the eating right and exercising slip away and I'm paying for it again, because gaining weight is real easy when you have a hypothyroid. Good luck. You can still lose weight, although probably at a slower rate than other people. Check out books by Mary Shomon (The Thyroid Diet, Living with Hypothyrodism) for tips on how to lose weight when you have thyroid problems. You do have to be physically active, though. It is possible to lose weight, but you have to work at it. I was diagnosed with hypothyroidism some years ago & I lost weight & have kept it off. I eat healthy, exercise daily, & drink lots of water. Please make sure you take your thyroid medicine daily & get your bloodwork done on time, when your doctor orders it. |
