Can I get hypothermia? |
I want to do this thing called a polar bear club. It's where a group of people jump in a lake or the ocean when its really cold out with snow on the ground. They do it every year in the winter where I live. Is it save for me to do with my friends or will I get hypothermia? Does anyone have any tips on how I can do the run in the lake with getting hypothermia? This is the only thing holding me back. It's safe to do it, just depends on how cold it gets. if it's below zero I wouldn't recommend doing it but if you're doing it with experts they'll let you know if it's unsafe. The event will have medical personal there. At least they do around here. You run in, run out, get covered with a warm blanket and have a nice warm drink. Then you get the bragging rights of being tougher than everyone else. Again, that's around here. Don't stay in the water for more than 1 minute and you will be OK. The red rash you will get from frost bite will itch for awhile but goes away reasonably fast |
