Which of the following shouldn't be done if a worker is suffering from hypothermia?

Which of the following shouldn't be done if a worker is suffering from hypothermia (land temperatures) or frost bite, according to OSHA's Cold Stress Card?

A) Moving the person to a warm and dry area.

B) Removing any wet or tight clothing that may cut off blood flow to the affected area (in the case of frost bite) and removing wet clothing and replacing it with warm and dry clothing (in the case of hypothermia).

C) Rubbing the affected area (in the case of frost bite) or rubbing the body of the person (in the case of hypothermia).

D) None of the above.

C) Rubbing the affected area (in the case of frost bite) or rubbing the body of the person (in the case of hypothermia).

In OSHA鈥檚 Cold Stress Card, the agency says that if a worker has frost bite, you shouldn鈥檛 rub the affected area, because rubbing causes damage to the skin. If the worker has hypothermia, you shouldn鈥檛 rub the person鈥檚 body or place them in warm water bath, which may stop the heart, the agency says.

B) Removing any wet or tight clothing that may cut off blood flow to the affected area (in the case of frost bite) and removing wet clothing and replacing it with warm and dry clothing (in the case of hypothermia).

Moving the person to a warm and dry area is just part of the process.

Rubbing the affected area will irritate the skin. If the person has had some areas that are damaged by frostbite, you will cause pain as he/she thaws.

C) Rubbing the affected area (in the case of frost bite) or rubbing the body of the person (in the case of hypothermia).

It's also not a good idea to stick the affected area in hot water either.

If you rub the affected area, the water that was in the skin cells that is frozen may break off and cause problems.
