Is there a fisrt aid method for hypothermia or pneumonia? |
i heard form my parents a high shool student died because he got out to school with wet hair with cold outside (sorry if i didnt type this well), and then he got some pain in the chest and then he died just arriving the hospital. so my mommy is forbiding me to take a bath on mornings. I was thinking if im not the victim but a friend or someone else infront of me... damn i need to know this is serious stuff. thanks to you all!!11 It is very serious, a lot of people have pneumonia and don't know it and you can die of hypothermia in a mater of hours. first off, if some kid died of pneumonia or hypothermia, it was more than just getting outta the shower and getting sick that morning.... first aid for hypothermia is to stay warm... pneumonia is antibiotics, rest, and fluids. Keep victim warm and dry. Give warm, sweet drinks if conscious. Watch breathing & apply rescue breathing techniques if required. The best advice I can give is to go to http://www.webmd.com and see what the site recommends. You can even print it off and keep it in you back pack. Be certain what is myth and what is fact. Yes, wet hair can cause hypothermia if in very cold weather for an extended amount of time. In the mornings it would be best to dry your hair and to wear a hat or something because your head needs to stay warm. #1 Hypothermia is a sudden drop in core body temperature, which causes shock and then death. You usually see this in prolonged cold exposure without proper gear. The quickest way is to bring the bodies core temperature back up as quickly as possible. Ex: body to body contact (cold against normal body temperature), warm blankets, put them in warm water. Get them out of the cold..... Both are serious conditions that can kill, but hypothermia in the short term is more dangerous than pnuemonia, since it can develop rather quickly in colder weather, especially if you get your clothes wet or fail to dress properly(layering, hat, glove). Getting a victim warmed slowly is the best 1st aid for them, Pneumonia takes a little longer to develop. You have to have some sort of illness getting this sneaky illness. Sometimes, it will require a sudden ride to the hospital or you can get the "walking" variety & not knowing how sick you really are til the doc tells you. |
