Orthostatci hypotension.?

what is orthostatci hypotension.?

It means that when you stand up, you do not have enough blood pressure to get blood to your brain. This can cause fainting. It is very common in some women and older people.

Most of us have had temporary orthostatic hypotension. This happens when we stand up quickly and our head feels dizzy and spinny.

A person who has orthostatic hypotension can easily faint when they are just standing still, such as waiting in line at a grocery store. You can read more about OH here:

There are several medications for this. Midodrin and Florinef are often prescribed. If you think you have this, see an electrophysiologist or a cardiologist who is experienced in diagnosing and treating this.

Why the HECK do u wanna no tht yo?

It's when you stand up & your blood pressure falls really fast, you often fall over or pass out. It's a terrible condition, I suffer from it ocassionally along with CFS.

Orthostatic hypotension (also known as postural hypotension) is a sudden fall in blood pressure that occurs when a person assumes a standing position. Symptoms, which generally occur after sudden standing, include dizziness , lightheadedness, blurred vision , and syncope (temporary loss of consciousness).

It may be caused by hypovolemia (a decreased amount of blood in the body), resultingfrom the excessive use of diuretics , vasodilators , or other types of drugs, dehydration , orprolonged bed rest. The disorder may be associated with Addison'sdisease , atherosclerosis (build-up of fatty deposits in thearteries), diabetes , and certain neurological disorders including Shy-Dragersyndrome and other dysautonomias.

When orthostatic hypotension is caused by hypovolemia due to medications, the disorder may be reversed by adjusting the dosageor by discontinuing the medication. When the condition is caused by prolonged bed rest, improvement may occur by sitting up withincreasing frequency each day. In some cases, physical counterpressure such as elastic hose or whole-body inflatable suits may berequired. Dehydration is treated with salt and fluids.

The prognosis for individuals with orthostatic hypotension depends on the underlying cause of the condition.
