Orthostatic Hypotension?? |
I was diagnosed with Orthostatic Hypotension. I understand that it's when your blood pressure drops too fast when you go from a lying position to a standing position. I sometimes get dizzy from this postural change, however I am more concerned about other symptoms. there are pressure receptors in your body that detect when blood is pooled somewhere (usually legs) and these tell your brain to turn up your heart rate to recirculate the blood so it can get to the vital organs. this is what your body is doing when you feel your heartrate going up. when people get older, these receptors get worn out or the part of your brain that responds to the receptors gets worn out and it make it so blood cannot be recirculated well so you end up getting light-hearted due to the blood being pooled in your legs, where your brain can't get it. remember, blood carries oxygen and nutrients to the brain so it can do its thang. got it? I tried to put it as simply as possible. don't worry, this condition is fairly common, especially with our increasingly sedimentary lifestyles. it can be stressful, but its not usually lifethreatening unless you faint and hit your head. it can usually be treated by generally moving more slowly, especially when standing from a prone position. i would schedule an appointment with your heart doctor you may have an arrythmia which is an irregular heart beat and may need a pacemaker or it may be normal check with him first. it also depends on your age wght heredity ect No, it's not. They're two different issues entirely. One is a blood pressure problem, the other is an electrical issue in your heart. What you are experiencing is tachycardia, fast heart rate, which is worth getting looked at. It's not a life threat so much as another condition that deserves a look. You do know that you are supposed to dangle your feet over the side of the bed for a bit and wiggle your toes etc. before you get up to get the blood flowing with OH. This will cut down on the dizzies quite a bit. You cannot just get up EVER! Maybe before bending over to pick something up you could cross your legs and squeeze. This helps too. But you should see a Dr. to be sure. |
