Can hypothyroidism be wrongly diagnosed as hypoparathyroidism? |
I have been diagnosed with hypoparathyroidism, but I have NO symptoms of it. When the doc's nurse called to give me the results she told me I had hypothyroidism, the same thing when I talked to the endocrinoligist's receptionist. Then when I went to our doc with my mother who also has been diagnosed with hypothyroidism, I started asking questions about it. That's when the doctor told me that I have hypoparathyroidism. Could he have mistaken? I have absolutely no symptoms of hypoparathyroidism. But I have almost all the symptoms of hypothyroidism. I even have a family history of hypothyroidism. And I don't even know how I could have gotten hypoparathyroidism, I've never even had surgery or radiation therepy or anything!!! I just don't know, I'm so confused!!! my daughter has hypoparathyroidism, she suffers from leg cramps mainly at night due to low calcium levels, do you have any symptoms like this? I'm sorry i don't know what you are talking about but if i were you i would see another Doctor and get a second opinion. you could have hypoparathyroidism without having any symptoms. It may be time for a second opinion. I'm not familiar with hypoparathyroidism so I don't know how it's treated. Has your doctor gone into detail about reasons and treatment? It may be time to take your records to someone else. I'll throw in another endocrine diagnosis. I am thyroid resistant. My blood tests give the impression that my system is overdosed with thyroxin, but I am not waif like or suffering any ill effects. I take beta blockers for this and my blood pressure (tends to be high). But the problem I have is incurable or untreatable. I just live with it. Well hypothyroidism is baisically a metabolism problem. Hypoparathyroidism is decreased function of the paratyroid glands, which can lead to decreased parathyroid hormone, which leads to hypocalcemia, a calcium defficiency. THe two don't have anything in common. Hypothyroidism baiscally either makes your metabolism way too fast, or way too slow. Hypoparathyroidism will pretty much break down your body because you won't get any calcium. |
