Hypoglycemia and sugar tablets? |
I don't understand why someone would take a sugar tablet to help with hypoglycemia, well I do and I dont. I think I have it and when i have an attack of it I feel like Ineed sugar, but wouldn't soem carbs with a protein be better so you don't get another quick rise like another sugar rush. I would think straight sugar would just cause it to occur again. I am thinking if your hypyglycemia you really need to stay away from sugary foods and eat foods high in protein so your levels stay normal and don't spike, is this right? im diabetic. glucose tablets are a quick fix until you can get to some food....if you sugar is really low and you are riding in a car, or in class, or at work and it will take you a few minutes to get some food...then glucose tablets are perfect : ) Complitely agree with you! Hypoglycemia means that your blood sugar is low. So you need to bring it up. The fast-acting sugar in glucose tablets brings your sugar up to where it should be, but then you should follow it with a protein as well. You need at least 15 carbs to bring it up, and three glucose tablets work in a pinch. Sugar tablets are good because they bring your blood sugar up quickly. Eating carbs with protein in them take longer for your body to digest, and your blood sugar will not rise as quickly. |
