Hypoglycemia with Avandia? |
My doctor has put me on Avandia and Glucophage. Several years ago I was on Glucophage, and it never caused me hypoglycemia. i have had hypoglycemia for a long time. i either eat cheese, peanut butter, or drink orange juice. They say hard candy is another good one. But when your sick with it sweets sound discusting. If you get hypoglycemia while on the meds, you would treat it the same as you would treat any other hypoglycemia episode--drink juice, eat sugary things to get it up, as well as protein to help keep it up. If you do get hypoglycemia from the meds, though, once the immediate concern is taken care of (drink the juice first), call the doctor asap to notify the doctor and see what he/she suggests. Glucophage/Metformin only works on the liver preventing it from flooding the system with stored glucose. It will never cause a Hypo!! |
