Is this hypoglycemia? |
While out walking yesterday I suddenly felt giddy, sweaty and dying for something sweet to eat. As soon as I reached home I ate about three Kit Kat bars and soon after felt OK again. You may be a diabetic and not know it, yet. If you felt better after eating something sweet it was most likely a hypoglycemic incident. You should get this checked to find out why your body is producing so much insulin. Also, it could be related to the heat. it does kind of sound like hypoglycemia. the only bad thing about fulfilling the crave for sugar is that you will hit a big LOW when that sugar wears off and it can create a cycle. i would consult your doctor about this on your next visit, Hypoglycemia never makes you 'dying for something sweet to eat'. You probably just had a craving. As you had been out walking you must have used up your energy reserves and just needed a topping up to ease your feelings. I have this at times its when I havent eatten a meal and then my blood suger drops and I need something now ! Everyone has fluctuations in their sugar and doing certain activities increases those swings. Sounds more like you were a bit dehydrated and had the hypoglycemic issue on your mind which conjured up the thought of eating sugar..It could be a touch of both. The key is to drink fluids and to eat moderately and wisely especially when adding exercise. Your doctor can help you make that determination if it is occuring frequently.... You seem quite certain that you aren't diabetic, so can assume you have had reason to be tested for this recently. I'd imagine that you admitting a high sugar intake to a doctor would be a reason for this testing, but am surprised that it wasn't mentioned that if you continued the high sugar intake that you could develop diabetes. That does sound like a hypoglycemic episode. Get to your doctor and get checked out. And it doesn't just affect diabetics. If you've gone for a while without eating, your blood sugar will still drop. |
