Can Hypoglycemia cause depression and mood swings?

I have hypoglycemia and i cut but i have really bad mood swings of high and lows. Im going to therapy but i was just woundering if hypoglycemia could have helped any of this along

im still trying to talk myself into thinking i dont need help

I would think so.

If I am super hungry, I get very irritable, which I am sure is because of a current state of low blood sugar.

I am nearly positive the two should be related.

You have chronic hypoglycemia? Are you a diabetic? I really don't know why you would have chronic low blood sugar...it's a very dangerous thing though. (Severe hypogycemia will result in coma)

I think you need to go to your reular doc and have some tests to determine why you have hypoglycemia. There are alot of physical conditions that can cause mood swings and other mental health issues, with treatment of the condition the issues typically resolve.

I have done some research and yes it can lead to mood swings. it may be the cause of things like nervousness and shakiness, confusion, and even sleeping effects like nightmares and such. O ya a piece of advice. The cutting wont help. I suggest stopping that.

dear friend,
you need a lot of help.hypoglycemia is not one of the simplest diseases, and needs to be seriously balanced and treated, and is accompaniend by such ups and downs of glycemia levels and respectively of your mood.consult your family doctor and /or a specialist in diabetes and according to your stage diabetes 1 or 2 he is the only one who can give you the right advice.and as you have yahoo you can contact mayo clinic or/and wikipaedia and learn more ,or better everithing you can about your typ 1 or 2 diabetes in order to co-operate with the specialising doctor you have imperatively to visit and to establish a diet and the right treatment.once again,do not ignore this advice ,this disease does not kill ,you can live your normal life but you have to live it on a balance carefully keenly respecting the treatment, the recommended diet ,to exercise but not overexercise,to mean a b a l a n c e d life. Amd do not forget to learn as much as you can about your disease,as this is also a diseases where you will have to be also the first to care about yourself to strictly follow a programe indicated by the diabetes medical doctor..read more and more about it and ask always even on phone your curing doctor,do not act at random, only on doctor's advise.if you are young (type 1 diabetes)the treatment is even more severe ,eventually insulin dependant, and should be kept "ad literam", which means 100%perfectly balance exactly matching medical indications.,buy a blood sugar measuring device read carefully instructions and you can test your sugar in the morning before breakfast or any time when you see a change in mood and disposition and handle as yor doctor indicated.if you usually have undersugar you always have to carry with you some sugar and if you do not feel well, dizziness ,perspiration, you est a little sugar -a few grams, something like half a teefull spoon of it or somethingl ike a piece of bread or a small piece of chocolate, and must not fear a hyperglycemia which is not as dangerous as a a hypoglycemia which can mean to a coma if not quicjkly intervened with some sweets as above or some food..now you can understand that you have also to be a little bit also your own emergency doctor.otherwise,if correctely
b a l a n c e d ,you will not have to much problems and will mean a normal life.
once more take it seriously,treatment,diet,exercise,medica... assistance, blood sugar control
i wish you a strong will,as you need it.

uhh damn that last answer was long.. ya i have it and if i don't eat in time before my blood sugar crashes i get super pissed and irritable. especially if its a person between me and my food which for us with hypoglicimia is the same between you and passing out and feeling like you got the flu, i punched a guy at taco bell cause he tried to walk off with my order
