Hypoglycemia-If you have or someone you know-How to keep a normal blood sugar during the day and night?

My 22 year old daughter was just diagnosed with hypoglycemia. Was rushed to hospital and blood sugar was 1.4-Any tips on how you personally kept your sugar at normal level. Please no smart *** answers cause this is my daughters life at stake.Got doctor advice but need to hear from someone who goes thru this daily.Thanx.

I thank all that respond with intelligent advice-Thank You-God Bless You And Yours

I deal with diabetics all day long at my job so I know it's a scary thing especially if it's a new thing.
Get an accucheck machine and take the blood sugar before each meal and at bedtime. This will give you a sort of base line blood sugar to go on. I cannot stress the importance of diet. Low carb diets work well and you can always find examples of these online. Make sure there are snacks available to her in between meals and before bed. Good luck

My son has type 1 diabetes and has since 2. he is 12 now. I know a trick for fighting hypoglycemia @ night. Cornstarch. Make your daughter eat Tablespoon of cornstarch mixed in to a snack like a pudding cup. Cause its a long acting carbohydrate that will keep her blood sugar in range. She may need double that amount if shes an adult. Try it!

Just tell you daughter to eat more carbohydrates. Beware of some of the advice I see above. Your daughter is hypoglycemic, not diabetic. There is a difference. She has an abundance of insulin, not a lack of it. Hence, more complex carbohydrates are needed.

I'm a fairly brittle diabetic....I have high-highs and low-lows...I check my sugars 10 times a day I'm also on an insulin pump) I try to keep something with me all the time in case of a hypoglycemic episode.

I'm surprised she didn't feel it coming on...you may suggest to her Doctor to do a "controlled" hypoglycemic episode in his office....usually what they'll do is give an excess amount of insulin to purposely lower the blood sugar so you know what it feels like. However, some people never feel it coming on so it can be very dangerous.

Checking her sugars frequently and eating when she's supposed to is probably the best answer.

Hope this helps!

i was just diagnosed with the same thing and my doctor told me to eat something small about every four hours and try to stay away from the white flour foods like saltine crakers and such.she also told me to keep a snack on hand at all times and in an emergency orange juice will always help.
i hope this will help you. im still trying to learn i was diagnosed last week so this is all new to me to. good luck with your daughter.
