Hypoglycemia during the night?


Im pre-diabetic with hypoglycemia. It got worst, I went to the doctor to get checked up. (my doctor was not available anymore). The new doctor said that my low sugar attacks were in my head. I went to another one and they said the same thing. I decided to get a new glucose monitor to make sure that my old one was not showing inaccurate resutls. Well the new monitor yield the same results (I bought a different brand). I decided to just try to eat more balanced and take my levels every so often, especially days that I feel sick. The other night I went to bed. I woke up very suddlenly and felt ill. I didn't know what was going on, I decided to try to make it to the kitchen and I thought I had to either call the emergency and colapse or try to eat my glucose tabs and as much as I can from our fridge. I never had it that bad. I usually react really bad at 60mg/dl. With this episode I couldnt take my levels I was so close to black out. what should I do? Cant go to the dr, they dont beleive

You have so far in this board received excellent advice. Heed the advice carefully. Do see an endocrinologist.

Are you taking any medication. Some medications may lead to low blood sugar.

My grandson was born with very low blood sugar and nearly died from it within the first few weeks of his life. It was a severe case of hereditary hypoinsulism. The first few doctors could not diagnose the problem. He was transferred to three different hospital before he was properly diagnosed. I am not saying that you have the same condition. I am saying that not all doctors, even endocrinologists can properly diagnose a problem.

Why do you say that you are a prediabetic?

Normal blood sugar is for fasting 70-110 and two hours after the meal is no higher than 140-160. Take your blood sugar at different times. Note the circumstances, fasting or after meals and keep careful records.

You know that there is a problem. Continue to search to find the cause and then the treatments.

Have you been journaling all these glucose tests? Find a new doc immediately!! those are quacks and should be entered in the Deming Duck Races next week!!!!

What are you eating at night? Dinner at what hour? Bedtime snack? What meds are you taking? All these things have a bearing on your nighttime attacks. Don't vacuum the fridge!!! Test and eat only enough to get up to normal. Glucose tabs are good only for immediate relief.

Apple, cheese, crackers are good snack before bedtime or at midnight for that refiller.

Remember that all meters are not created equally!! there is no law that says they must be more than 70% accurate!! When you have your blood checked at the doctor's office or clinic check with your meter also to know if it is off more than 30%!!

My Accucheck and Ascensia Breeze are both off about 20 points - high!! My new One Touch Mini is right on with the lab's meters. I have to remember to correct for the deficiencies of the first 2 meters.

My insurance co pays for all the strips for the Accucheck, but I don't like the thing. They charge me 75% of the strips for the other 2.

Go find a new doc!! Check the accuracy of your meter!! and eat a bedtime snack.

Try eating your evening meal later in the evening. If you can't do that, then have a high carbohydrate snack late in the evening. See if that will tide you over until morning. Even a glass of milk at night might do it for you. No exercise routines in the evening.

You need to see an endocrinologist, a doctor who specializes in metabolic disorders such as diabetes and hypoglycemia. Eat a snack before bedtime. Low blood sugar attacks in the night are especially worrisome, since you can go into a coma. Keep a Snickers bar beside your bed. It raises your levels quickly and lasts a long time. Be sure to balance your carbs with protein during the day. But, see a specialist.

Cut down on your medication after 3pm. If you don't eat, you don't need much medication or maybe none at all. Pre diabetics can often control their blood/sugar through diet alone.
Eat lean meat, vegetables & whole grain carbs. Eat No sugar.

you need to find a diabetic specialist and see him only. its not in your head. when you get one have a good checkup and start from there he can hlep you may know you have to check blood sugars at least 4 x day and sometimes it is good to check it at 3am also that is when sometimes the sugar is lowest or highest and if it is that is time to take acton.
