Exercise and hypoglycemia?

I want to lose 35 -40 lbs and I have hypoglycemia and low iron stores would exercise be a dangerous thing? Hubby seems to think so. I havent tried to exercise at a steady pace yet cause hubby and my mother insist I will pass out with the combo of the two medical problems. Also has anyone heard of only eating and snacking on cereal for 2 weeks to shed pouds fast and set metabolisim? Any input would be a great help. Thanks

I also have hypoglycemia, and have been borderline anemic, so I have some good advice for you. You just have to be really aware of your blood sugar level and have a sugary snack at hand just in case you start to feel those cold sweats and trembles that signal a low blood sugar. Fruit won't do the trick, so save the apple for your every-day snack. Have a candy bar or glucose tablets or some other sugary snack in your gym bag just in case, because you need something that will act quickly. Always make sure that you don't start exercising when you're already hungry. Eat SENSIBLE meals, at regular intervals, and also small fruit-and-crackers-and-yogurt types of snacks inbetween. Exercise is an awesome way to lose weight and it's so good for you, there's no reason not to do it, unless you doctor actually tells you not to. It can actually make your body process sugar in a more even way so that you don't have as many hypoglycemic episodes. Over time, it can make a big difference.

As for the cereal, just make sure you're not overlaoding on carbs. That won't help your blood sugar or your weight. Cereal can be really healthy but you need to balance it with proteins and fruits and vegetables and dairy. Don't go on any extreme diet where you only eat one kind of thing. Fad diets will make everything worse. Eat sensibly, eat smaller portions, make treats small and less frequent, exercise for 30 minutes, 3 to 5 times a week ~ and the weight will come off.

Good luck!

First, of course, talk to your doctor.
To help stabilize your blood sugars, always, always, have a protein with your meal. For example, whatever diet plan you choose, you should be eating smaller meals throughout the day. 5-6 at least. Make sure you always eat a protein regardless of what you eat. (their are no calories or carbs in any protein, if your watching your fat intake, get lean meats.) Something as simple as a hard boiled egg, turkey breast or ham sandwich slices (Hormel puts out a good one that has little or no preservatives). And don't forget beans! As simple as a good spoon full of beans (helps keep you out of the rut of getting sick of meats)
My personal opinion is the Atkins diet for your condition. Read "The Atkins Essentials". The first 60+ pages will give you the information you need to get started. If your the type that wants more information, then get his other book that is in more, extensive detail.
EAT BEFORE you excercise. Keep something fast acting in case of emergencies with you at all times. The more you excercise you will need to adjust your mealtimes, foods, etc. Stay alert to what your body is telling you. DO NOT ignore symptoms of bloodsugar drops.
