What is Hyperuricemia? And what does it do to the body besides Gout?

I have numerous health difficulties. Diabetes puts me at risk for kidney damage/failure. I have had a gout attack in the past and Allopurinol caused migraines - resulting in Complex Migraine Syndrome which manifested in the temporary loss of motor function in my right hand.

Stopping Allopurinol stopped my migraines... yet now my uric acid level has skyrocketed to 11.6. I understand 2.3 is normal.

I am waiting until my doctor is available to me next week... and am currently in fantasticly hideous - all over body - pain that does not respond to prescription painkillers. ...A common occurance for my Fibromyalsia.

All I know of Hyperuricemia is Gout.

Are there other possible complications due to high levels?
I already eliminated all imaginable foods with purines.
What now?

Thank you in advance.

Peace.

I (fortunately) am not currently experiencing a gout attack... but I will keep Celebrex in mind - I've been trying Ultram since my Diverticulosis won't allow me to deal with opiates.

Peace!

Uric acid is a wasts product formed from the breakdown (metabolism) of substances in food called purines. Most of the uric acid made by your body dissolves in your blood and passes through your kidneys into your urine. However, sometimes your body either produces too much or excretes too little uric acid.

Causes of high uric acid levels in your blood (Hyperuricemia) include:

1. Obesity
2. Excessive alcohol use
3. Diets high in purines (I listed some below)
4. Certain medications, includng low-dose-asprin, diuretics and some high blood pressure drugs.
5. Certain diseases that have a high cell turnover rate, such as leukemia, lymphoma or psoriasis.

Intially, hyperuricemia may cause no symptoms. But if untreated, it can lead to:

1. Gout
2. Unic acid stones in the urinary tract
3. Deposits of uric acid in the kidneys (uric acid nephropathy)
4. Deposits of uric acid in the soft tissue (tophi)

Treadment is directed at reducing uric acid levels and may include lifestyle changes such as:

1. Avoiding alcohol
2. Mantaining a healthy weight
3. Losing weight if you're overweight
4. Avoiding foods high n purines (Alcohol, organ meat like liver, beans, and some dark vegatable like spenich, salt and junk food. You need to drink a lot of water to flush out your kidneys.
5. Discontinuing use of medications that may be causing elevated uric acid levels.

In addition, you may need further testing to rule out conditions that may contribute to elevated uric acid levels--especially if levels don't rreturn to normal after lifestyle changes. Additonal treatment may include medications to lower uric acid levels. It is important to note that high uric acid levels are lso associated with an increased rick of heat disease. So it is important to retuce high uric acid levels.

Blessings

For some reason celebrex helps with my gout.
Also, for natural gout relief I've been advised to try canned black cherries, or sour cherries, juice and fruit help relieve the pain.
I don't know anything else to tell you, except that I will be praying.

Hi De,
I know that my father in law's gout and pain in his feet came from shell fish and some seafood.
I don't know if they have purines, I am not sure what they are.
I will be praying for you,
vicki

Celebrex is one of the treatments that seem to help.

and Sea Vegg has been helping my wife a lot, it is also suggested for Fibromyalsia.

My wife gets hers on E Bay.

and I will surely pray for you

De,
What I found is that Hyperuricemia: Abnormally elevated blood level of uric acid. Uric acid is a breakdown product of purines that are part of many foods we eat. While hyperuricemia may indicate an increased risk of gout , the relationship between hyperuricemia and gout is unclear. Many patients with hyperuricemia do not develop gout, while some patients with repeated gout attacks have normal or low blood uric acid levels. Among the male population in the United States, approximately ten percent have hyperuricemia. However, only a small portion of those with hyperuricemia will actually develop gout.
I will send you a phone number to call a friend of mine who is an expert in herbals. Please call her if/when you are able to do so. I hope that you feel better. I will also pray for you.
Thanks,
Eds

Hyperuricemia is Uric acid is the final product of purine metabolism in human beings. The condition of hyperuricemia is indicative of a high level of uric acid in the blood (>7 for men, >6 for women). Human beings have higher levels of uric acid (hyperuricemia) because of a deficiency of the hepatic enzyme, uricase, and a lower fractional excretion of uric acid. Approximately two thirds of total body urate is produced endogenously, while the remaining one third is accounted for by dietary purines. Approximately 70% of the urate produced daily is excreted by the kidneys, while the rest is eliminated by the intestines.
There are natural products to combat this very painfull problem.
Cut out red meats & pork.
You can detox your body,SLOWLY.
You will go through a healing crisis.
In other words you'll get worse before you get better.
Drink Lots of good water. Half your body weight in ozs. daily.
You can eat cherries.
Organic cherries.
This is another form of arthritis.

Need to really alkalinize your ph levels - alkaline salts.
I'll email you more info on this. My best pal has worked for over 25 yrs in a highly reputable health food store as buyer and as a nutritional consultant, certified and trained. So I will let you know what alternatives you may be helped by. This person also is aware of contraindications so that you can safely make alternative choices that won't interfere with your current meds.

Sorry to hear you are in so much pain, ahhhh sweetie. We'll get you some info by tonight...

Blessings and hope it's ok to lift you up in prayer. If not, let me know.

And watch the water levels, right now that could compromise alot of the conditions, and your body is working hard enough right now.

Alkaline salts are the only thing that dissolves the uric acid crystals, they don't dissolve well in water or alcohols, but the alkaline salts do dissolve them. The kidney stones can be also dissolved and passed naturally. My pal can tell you how.
And so, I hope you get other valuable information in our answers to you.

Loving you and holding you in light and the comfort of HS.

My son can only have chicken, turkey and vegetables as well. We have horrible auto immune disease in our family and life threatening food allergies too. They all seem to run in groups. My children all have the gene that makes them more likely to get type 1 diabetes as well. I am very interested in what answers you get as I am also in pain daily. I will be praying for you and some quick relief.
