Hypertension/Hyperthyroidism? Help? |
I'm 21 yrs old and am 5ft3in and 100lbs. I can't gain weight at all and I believe I have a high blood pressure. Was wondering if my hyperthyroidism has something to do with my high bp? I eat regularly(my diet may not be the healthiest though), my heart pulse elevates most of the time, no drugs taken. Should I consult my doctor to see if I need meds or is this normal? If you are 21 and have high blood pressure (i.e. several readings above 140/90...not just one) then you should see a doctor. The would typically require a work-up including blood work and if female an ultrasound of the arteries suppling your kidneys. Absolutely!! One of the effects of hyperthyroidism is high blood pressure and High BP can ruin your kidneys, affect your vascular system-stroke and even cause cardiac problems. Other effects of Hyperthyroidism are rapid pulse, inability to take in enough calories to combat how fast your body burns them due to the overactivity of your thyroid, as well as hyperactivity and poor quality of sleeping. I don't know when the last time you had a blood panel done to check your thyroid but it is very important that you stay on top of that. I also don't know how much teaching your doctor has invested in educating you but the thyroid can be fatal (it can kill you) if it is not taken seriously and monitored. It could be that you need your medication adjusted or it could be that your thyroid condition has worsened. Are you taking your meds everyday? Its imperative that you do!!!! Go and get your thyroid panel (blood work) done again to see where you stand and please take this seriously. The thyroid is completely treatable but the most important person that has control over its treatment is you so participate fully in treating this and see your doctor as soon as possible. My best to you!! |
