What are the side affects of leaving Hyperthyroidism untreated?

My doctor told me I have Hyperthyroidism, and I should get it treated. However, I'm afraid to go back to my doctor to get treatment OR to ask any questions because I'm afraid it'll cost me another few $100 out of my pocket...and I'm already in debt from past visits. One visit had me paying close to $400 just for talking to my doctor about my health and it wasn't even a check up! (Its my fault for not reading the documentation)

I'm just a college student, work full time and who doesn't have any financial support from family and I use my insurance that my job provides me. The insurance is crap but whatever...it did knock out some of the fees (but not enough)

So my question is, what are the side affects of leaving Hyperthyroidism untreated? Also, are their alternative suggestions for treatment? (that aren't expensive)

If left untreated, underactive or overactive glands can cause years of severe ill health and in some cases have resulted in patients dying. Virtually all forms of thyroid disease can be easily treated resulting in good health. Most people are given tablets, usually 3 tablets morning and night. produces a marked improvement of symptoms in most people after three to four weeks. In themselves the tablets don't make the unknown cause of hyperthyroidism go away. But by taking the tablets the disorder may then disappear by itself as mysteriously as it came, just with the passage of time. You will enjoy excellent health as long as the tablets are taken and the level of thyroxine is monitored by a blood-test. Even after a year or more of treatment however, on stopping the tablets hyperthyroidism returns in nearly two thirds of patients, sometimes within weeks. In a minority, about one third, there may be no return of symptoms even for years. Excerpted from Medic8 Family Health Guide. I am sure you know when you say there is no help from the your family . But are you sure they are fully aware of your dilemma at this point? IF still no help from them the doctors you've already consulted should be able to tell you if in your case you will respond to taking the prescribed tablets or at least advise you more. Be sure to tell them that of your financial status before talking to them again. I am sure they will be sympathetic.

All the doctor really has to do is prescribe you Methimazole from a pharmacy.

My cat has hyperthyroidism. It causes high blood pressure, hyperactivity, you may feel wired-up or tense alot, you may feel like your heart is beating very VERY fast. In the long term, it can cause a heart attack or stroke, kidney failure, as well as blindness due to the rupture of blood vessels in the retina.

There are alternative treatments to include surgery or radioactive treatment. These are both very effective, and you won't need medication afterwards.

I had this problem and you need to get it taken care of. when you are Hyper thyroid your internal organs run at 100x normal speed while you out side is moving normal your insides are running 10x faster and your internal organs age about 10 years to 1 as long as this goes untreated.I have included a website that might be of some use

You should be treated. Talk to the nurse in your doctors office and explain your financial worries and the fact that you are a college student. Go to the above links that others are giving you for more information about this condition.

IS there no government/public hospital available in ur area?
And if u do not take treatment that wd b more expensive for ur life and ur family too.
