Has anyone had radioactive iodine treatment for hyperthyroidism? Need answers about turning hypothyroidism!?

I had radioactive iodine treatment for hyperthyroidism about three months ago. I have been to the doctor once since then, about a month ago. I had barely just gotten hypothyroidism. I have gained about ten pounds since then. I am scared it keeps getting worse but do not know anyone who has had this treatment. Also, my fingers and ankles are swelling up and hurting really bad.

Has anyone had experience with radioactive treatment for hyperthyroidism??? What happens and what was your expereience???

I have no clue where you are located but you can do what I did. I went through something similar except I had developed papilary and folicular thyroid cancers. I in a period of one year gained close to 70lbs because once I had a total thyroidectmy my Dr gave me 100mcg of Levoxyl a few days after my I31 treatment. I was never given a regulated dosage for my own personal requirement. After a 3 year period of suffering from muscle aches, depression, weigh gain, blurred vision, brittle nail and dry skin, I switched thru several Drs and non knew how to care for me and my non existent thyroid. Instead I found a Dr who understood my needs through Armour. I found very little ENT Dr that were willing to listen to me need to have an immediate thyroid replacement

Please don't do what I did. I waited way too long because the Drs I chose to listen to I had trusted.....Demand an emergency appointment because you will continue to worsten as you no longer have a functioning thyroid.
After your I31 treatment, you are to go back for a full body CT scan to determin that the radiation has left your system, and labs performed to determine your thyroidglobilin levels. No more than a week you are to be given a thyroid replacement, either synthetic form or a more natural form like Armour. At any rate "Please" dont wait any longer this is your body, your life demand to be heard......Here's the Dr locator I used

My mother was treated for it in the early 60's. They messed up the dose and gave her too much. She had to take thyroid pills everyday until her death in 2004.

Ask your DR to test your thyroid level.

Get back to your doctor immediately and get new blood tests. You need to be treated for the hypothyroidism that you now have. I would get a new doctor to do this. Your previous one needs to fired for not treating your hypothyroidism. This is what happens to everyone who gets RAI. You turn hypo, your doctor ignores and dismisses you. The lucky ones get up some energy, get mad, and demand proper treatment for their hypothyroidism.
