Hypertension?

Is it ok to stop taking Atenolol after my Blood Chem becomes normal? (e.g. Cholesterol, Tryglecerides)

Im taking Atenolol for about a month

Atenolol is an antihypertensive, meaning it works to lower your blood pressure. Although monitoring your blood levels and changing your lifestyle to lower your levels is wonderful, your blood pressure may be unchanged due to stress, other disease processes, or because it is a family trait. You should not suddenly stop taking this drug as it could have serious, life threatening side effects. Only your doctor can determine if you still need the Atenolol and if not, the doctor will prescribe a regimen that will slowly taper off your dose so you can safely stop taking the medication.

No, you should not stop that. You were prescribed Atenolol probably for an associated hypertension, and not for the deranged blood lipids. Deranged blood lipids require lifestyle modification and drugs like statins to reduce them. Gaining back the normal lipid profile is good but does not necessarily cure the hypertension; so you must stop atenolol, if at all, only after your doctor tells you to do so.

No. Atenolol treats high blood pressure, not your lipid profile.

The only reason to stop taking atenolol is if you develop side effects including, but not limited to, a slow heart rate, or bronchospasm (eg asthma symptoms)
