Could hypertension and kidney disorders be related.?

Recently had a baby and suddenly developed hypertension. My obgyn can't seem to tell a reason other than this occassionally happens and it may subside or maynot. The reason i'm relating this to kidney disorder is because during my pregnancy I had a lot protein in my urine but no elevation in bp.

Best to ask a doctor or consult medical sources.

It is very important that they check your urine again for protein. Hypertension and proteinuria means your kidneys are underattack, and with time can lead to failure.

Yes, kidney problems can cause hypertension. Ask your doctor if you should see a kidney specialist for testing. They may want to do a battery of kidney tests.

Kidneys regulate your blood pressure, so yeah, they're definitely related. I wouldnt go to an ob/gyn for this problem, but rather to an endocrinilogist and see what is wrong.

Kidney diseases can cause elevated b/p and elevated b/p can damage your kidneys. You may need to go see your reg doctor, not ob/gyn, for a kidney function test and evaluation of your elevated b/p. These symptoms may have nothing to do with your pregnancy.

absolutely yes.

I have systolic hypertension and was sent to see a Nephrologist & Hypertension specialist to watch for kidney problems along with my blood pressure. Some times tubes to the kidneys can become blocked causing hypertension......they will run test if they think it is necessary on that.

Treatment of hypertension during pregnancy requires special considerations because some antihypertensive drugs can harm the fetus. Complications of hypertension include:
Hypertensive nephropathy - chronic renal failure due to chronically high blood pressure and kidney damage.
Similarly kidney disease may cause Renovascular hypertension.
