Complimentary treatment for hypertension?

I have recently been diagnosed with hypertension. I look after myself, run regularly and have completed four marathons. I'm not keen on the medication I've been prescribed and was wondering if anyone could suggest any herbal remedies.

Here are some natural supplements that have proven to be very beneficial.

GLA Complex: reduces work demand on heart; increases HDL; improves liver metabolism of fats; increase flow rate in small blood vessels

CoQHeart: Enzyme Q10 - regulates circulatory system

Garlic: dilates small blood vessels; prevents clotting; dissolves fatty deposits

Optiflora: anti-strees: detoxifies neurotoxins for a healthier nervous system; helps normalize blood lipids

Herbal Laxative: provides from proper elimination of fats before they are reabsorbed

Lecithin: emulsifies blood fats, improves liver function; lower blood pressure

Alfalfa Complex: strengthens the kidneys which make a hormone that regulates blood pressure; natural diuretic

Calcium/Magnesium: a deficiency in calcium has been linked to high blood pressure

Vitamin E + Selenium: improves heart function

Hope this is helpful. If you would like to find what brand is recommended, feel free to contact me.

garlic,

Heart Tension Formula by Mountain Peak Nutritionals. Contains Rauwolfia, Hawthorn, Viscum Album (Misteltoe), Allim Sativa (garlic extract), Coleus Forskohili, Magnesium, Potassium and Vitamin C. I would see a naturopathic doc before taking it, tho'.

Yes take the herb "Hibiscus" it is used to normalize BP. Very much used in North Africa. It comes in teabags also. Try an Arabic store in your area. Its other name is Carcade. A lot of this is from the Sudan.
Also look into breathing exercises to relieve stress and tension. I believe that may be taught in yoga.
