Why is hypertension said to be a disease for life?

What is the pathophysiological mechanism that makes hypertension a disease for life?

In most cases (90+%) of essential hypertension there is no clear cut pathology/pathophysiology and hence we can only treat the symptoms. It can never be "cured".
