Has anyone experienced Hyperparathyroidism?

Among recent blood test that i have had, my calcium levels are slightly raised by about 0.2 My GP suggested looking further into it. I have had unexplained symptoms for three months which all tie in with hyperparathyroidism. But many GP's I have seen before have just said I had anxiety. However, this new GP acknowledged the raise in Calcium and said it could be an explanation to my symptoms.

Has anyone else experienced it and how much higher than normal do calcium levels need to be for it to be a problem?

I don't think it is very common. You could google it or try these books..I believe the treatment is surgery to remove the gland and it is tricky, since it is on top of the thyroid or near it..here is one link...

3 books on disease symptoms and treatments

you could also get these books on ebay or amazon or a half price book store. (last two are very similar)..
1.Oxford Handbook of Clinical Medicine
2.Handbook of Diseases (Lippencott)
3.Professional Guide to Diseases (Springhouse)

I have hyperparathyroidism. I am scheduled for surgery in June. This is pretty serious, it can lead to kidney stones, bone loss, depression. There is a very long list of symptoms. Go to this website www.parathyroid.com . They have a lot of information to help you out. My doctor told me that there is only one reason for a high calcium count and only surgery can take care of the problem. Good luck and don't wait to get this taken care of.
