Do hot flashes cause your temperature to go up?

I know with hot flashes you feel hot, but does your body temperature actually go up? About how much?

I've been sick lately (doctor is still trying to diagnose, but I do have CFIDS) and I would like to know if I am experiencing hot flashes (I'm 46) or a fever (99-100). It doesn't last that long, maybe an hour and then goes back down to 98 something.

You certainly could start having perimenopausal symptoms at age 46, including hot flashes.

Your body temperature changes very little with a hot flash. Technically, your internal thermostat is more sensitive than usual. It thinks you are hotter than you really are, and flips on the cooling mechanism for no good reason. When you flush and sweat it is your body trying to cool off. The blood rushes to your skin and your sweat glands get active. So your temperature is actually dropping a fraction of a degree.

most likely hot flashes....and I know how awful they can be....I rinse my face with cold water that seem to help

Not with my hot flashes and they seem to make me sweat.

just turned 50,started the hot flash thing.....never took my temp but the "flashes" start in the neck/chest area and u feel hot from inside..doesn't last long , few seconds to few minutes
.everyone is different..I tried taking estivin but it made it worse. good luck...
