In dealing with Hospice Care what time frame would you consider to be the final stage? |
In dealing with Hospice Care what time frame would you consider to be the final stage? There is no specific time frame for a "final stage". I know you're asking so that you can mentally prepare, but each hospice patient is unique and different. Talk openly with your Hospice Nurse, they should be able to give you some guidence dependent upon the person's disease, and current condition as to where they are now, and what signs to look for as time goes on and death approaches. You'll know 3-6 months. Hospice is normally considered appropriate when there is nothing medically that can be done to extend the paitents lifespan. Most Hospice's provide either can in a Hospice facility or support for care in the home. when they are in the final stage they can pass that hr, day, month i'm assuming you want to know about how long a person lives once hospice is brought in. it varies of course. i've dealt with this twice but each time it was a different set of circumstances. do you really want a time frame? Thank goodness for Hospice. My step-father (retired MD) did not want to die in a hospital. When the doctor says its time, then you really have no idea of the time but they usually do it for when it less than 6 months. He lasted 4 into it, but he had his family with him at the end. They had someone come over just to sit in the same room near the end just so my mother could try and get some sleep. They are great. My mother will do the same. |
