In dealing with Hospice Care what time frame would you consider to be the final stage?

In dealing with Hospice Care what time frame would you consider to be the final stage?

There is no specific time frame for a "final stage". I know you're asking so that you can mentally prepare, but each hospice patient is unique and different. Talk openly with your Hospice Nurse, they should be able to give you some guidence dependent upon the person's disease, and current condition as to where they are now, and what signs to look for as time goes on and death approaches. You'll know
when the time is close, your heart will tell you.

My mom passed away on August 7th, only 19 days after we took her home from the hospital. She was so happy to be at home where she wanted to be. The day after we brought her home, she was sitting in her chair in the living room, eating a Mc Donald's Big & Tasty burger and looking so content and happy when the Hospice Nurse came to visit that first day.

We had enough time for everyone to come and say goodbye to her and laugh with her one last time in those 19 days. My son even made it home from Iraq in time to visit while she was still looking and feeling good. She took photos with each person, so that they would have that last picture with her laughing or smiling.

I miss her so much, but those precious 19 days were priceless. Thank God for the wonderful people at Hospice, they will guide you through this, don't be afraid to ask them anything, at any time... I even called them in the middle of the night to ask a question, and they were there for me 100%!

This will be an experience that will remain with you in your heart for the rest of your life. It is hard emotionally, but it is also joyous. Hard for people to understand, but once you've been through it, you'll know what I mean.

Good luck, God be with you and your loved one. Tell them it is okay for them to go and reach out for the light when it is time. Hold them close to you, love them patiently and faithfully, but let them know it is okay for them to leave.

3-6 months.

Hospice is normally considered appropriate when there is nothing medically that can be done to extend the paitents lifespan. Most Hospice's provide either can in a Hospice facility or support for care in the home.

when they are in the final stage they can pass that hr, day, month

theres no real time frame.. when people are ready to let go and pass they do it own there own.. Dr's can give you a time frame but its not as accurate.. enjoy your time with whomever has hospice care now

i'm assuming you want to know about how long a person lives once hospice is brought in. it varies of course. i've dealt with this twice but each time it was a different set of circumstances. do you really want a time frame?

Thank goodness for Hospice. My step-father (retired MD) did not want to die in a hospital. When the doctor says its time, then you really have no idea of the time but they usually do it for when it less than 6 months. He lasted 4 into it, but he had his family with him at the end. They had someone come over just to sit in the same room near the end just so my mother could try and get some sleep. They are great. My mother will do the same.
