Are we ready for hospice care or are there other wholistic options if a patient continues with chemo?

My father has metatastic colo-rectal cancer. We are told that it inoperable and that he is not even a candidate for getting a colostomy (bag),we've seen five oncologists and he has had chemotherapy treatment his last PET scan showed a mild prgression and he has had recent severe bowel obstructions. on a fentynl patch for pain and uses breakthrough meds as well. Just had a five day period in the hospital where he was blocked-no food in-no food out. So it's getting more serious, although on the days without pain he can function " normally". We contacted hospice and they did feel that he is a candidate - He just says that he is not in pain today ( the day he is being released), but we know the pain pattern will soon continue-
Are thereother in home pain mangement options that he can have even if he continues with chemo? Hospice willonly be in place once treatment stops...and the doctor may allow him to continue...

I鈥檓 one of the writers for Gilbert Guide (the foremost resource for everything senior care). One of my colleagues, Ami Icanberry, wrote a blog for our website called 鈥淭he Difference between Hospice and Palliative Care鈥?that may be very helpful to you. Here鈥檚 an excerpt from the post:

鈥淢any people wonder, what then is the difference between hospice and palliative care, or are they one in the same? While palliative care addresses patients with life-threatening illnesses, anyone鈥攔egardless of life expectancy鈥攃an receive this type of care. Hospice, meanwhile, provides for patients who can no longer benefit from regular medical treatment, per a doctor鈥檚 determination, and are in the last stages of a terminal illness. Hospice and palliative care share the philosophy of maintaining and managing the patient鈥檚 quality of life.鈥?br>
