What is the first step to recieving hospice home health care? |
in gainesville florida Call your local hospice agency. They will be more than willing to answer any questions or concerns you may have. you have to show that you are gonna die I think My mom and my best friend just passed away and they were on hospice. You have to be given between 3 to 6 months to live or an even shorter period of time, then you qualify for hospice. It doesn't mean that you may not beat the 6 months. If you do hospice just gives you an extension. My mom passed away the day they extended her. The doctor can refer you. Call an agency that is listed in the yellow pages or a reference someone has given you. They will come out an evaluate the person. Hospice will opt you our of your Medicare benefit, so you need to make certain that no further tests or preventive treatment is to be done. Hospice is a multi-disciplinary team, meaning there are Dr.'s , social workers, health aides or techs and nurses to help with not only the individual but the family support team. Also, Hospice pays for the medications for pain,etc. Never hurts to ask questions, if someone comes out to evaluate the individual do not let them pressure you into a decision. Also the primary Dr may have someone that he/she has worked with. One can be on Hospice care and be in the nursing home. |
