Growth Hormones? |
I was on predisone for asthma and my doctor believes it might have caused me to have stunted growth (not positive yet though). I'm 15/f and I'm 5'7 or 5'8 ft (which doesn't sound like the picture of someone who suffers from stunted growth) but I've been the same height since I was in elementary school and I haven't grown since I started the steroids (which is what made my doctor wonder if the steroids had side effects because there's been cases when predisone caused stunted growth). The women in my family average at least 5'9 ft to 5'10 (so I look pretty small). My body's pretty much fully developed otherwise though despite it not really changing since grade school. I was wondering it sounded like I could have stunted growth. Also if I do have it, will I be put on growth hormones? What are growth hormones like and what will they do to my body? Please post. Thanks. But my problem is I would like to model or play basketball (something you have to be tall to do). I've been offered modeling jobs but I sometimes don't meet height requirements for runway (sometimes it's 5'7 and other times it will be 5'9). And obviously I can't do basketball at only 5'8. But all my family were top basketball players in their school and college years. Yes, it sounds like you might have been stunted just a little bit, but don't worry you are still tall! You have tall genes, so your kids will get them from you and they might reach their full potential. I have heard of growth hormones that you inject into your body everyday, but they are only for short people, and you don't sound like you need them! But, if you want to become a model or something then you can ask your doctor about that... It may well be the case that you are 2鈥?shorter than the rest of your family because of the steroids, but this is the price for getting through Asthma. Prednisone can cause adrenal problems but I don't think it directly impacts growth hormone production. If it has stunted your growth for another reason, gh will probably not help you. But you should ask your Dr. about it because if it will help, you don't have much time to waste because you are 15 and gh will only work a year or two longer. |
