Do hormones play a part in acne?

Are female hormones responible for acne problems, I had someone tell me that it was and it was easy to fix. I am unsure that I want to mess with my hormones. I do not have outbreaks during my menstural cycle, if that makes a differance.

Yes, the pore blockage where the infection lives is usually a hormonal thing, I believe it's male hormones causing that, and yes this is why birth control pills are often prescribed for acne and can help regulate this. Even if the acne doesn't get worse at certain times of the month. You can first try other treatments for your acne that are non-hormonal, like over the counter creams, or see a doctor for antibiotics, but birth control pills might be worth a try and it'll really be stabilising your hormones, not messing with them, and won't have long-term effects should you stop the treatment. It can also be from just having oily skin so you need a good cleanser. Try a cleanser that is oil-free and spot treatment for the zits to dry them up. They can. That's why certain types of birth control pills are often prescribed for female acne sufferers. My 13-year-old daughter had these pills prescribed for her to help with her acne. They didn't work so her doctor referred her to a dermatologist. Now she's taking Monocycline and using a cream and a foaming face cleanser. It has really cleared up her acne. She still gets an occasional pimple but it's not nearly as bad as her complexion was before she started this regimen. She no longer gets the huge cysts on her cheeks or the gigantic blackheads on her nose.
