I need some facts on homosexuality and genetic linkers?

A friend of mine and I are having a debate over weather homosexuality is a nature or nurture thing. Her stance is that while you can鈥檛 change a person from being homosexual into a heterosexual, through special therapy you can expand them to have hetero tendencies and preferences.

OFCOURSE I told her they did that in the 50's and it did not work and, I pointed out the identical twin studies, the Kinsey reports, the Evelyn hooker repots, and I've even had her watch "but I'm a cheerleader" and she still does not seem to believe that there are genetic factors in play.

If someone can direct me to various reports, or undisputable evidence it would be greatly appreciated.

I've all ready shown her the book "sexual spectrum" by Olive Skene Johnson and the "we're not sick" chapter from the book "gay power" by David Eisenbach. But she still wants more.

You may get a better answer asking in the LGBT section under society and culture since this isn't a mental health issue.

As far as I know, they have not found the "gay genes"... yet. I have gay ppl in my family going back three generations or more all born to straight parents, so personally I'm convinced there is a genetic component. The genome may be unlocked but there still much that remains unknown. Apologies for using mental illness comparisons because I don't believe they compare in any way other than technical. The gene (or one of them) for schizophrenia was just identified this year. They still have not identified the genes for bipolar disorder and it has been well established that it is a genetic illness. So... for some until there is hard evidence the argument will fall on deaf ears. Others are much more rational. Good luck.

As for those who can "convert" and be content with it, it's called bisexuality, not homosexuality or heterosexuality. Why this is such a difficult concept for so many ppl beats me.

From the research I have read and the latest reports from behavioral scientists, it seems that true homosexuality is hard-wired and could result from the hormone levels (estrogen and testosterone) in the mother during pregnancy.

As you already know, the verdict is not back on this issue. Seems to depend on which side you're on.

I have not read your books and articles that you mention. I am not homosexual. It seems to me if a man can live with a woman and be seemingly happy, raising children together and suddenly, out of the blue, tell his wife he is gay, shows that it is a choice. Or what about these young people who experiment with homosexuality for a bit, before settling down into heterosexuality? I don't claim to have any of the answers, but I have thought about these things.
