My friend has Hodgkin's...?

i am extremely afraid cuz hes like a brother to me and i dont want him to pass away from it. i know its really common they get through it but there is a chance they dont. can you inform me more about this disease??

oh and hes only 12 years old

You need to know what stage they found his in. The first two stages are more easily put into remission with proper treatment. The last two stages are a little more difficult, but it is possible to live through.
Ask the hospital or doctors office he is in to give you some information on support groups such as GILDA'S Clubs. They are a tramendous help.
Most of all remember , as scared as you are, your friend is even more scared. He needs you more now than ever to help keep him feeling as normal as possible. It's hard enough to deal with any kind of cancer as a young person, but to lose your friends because they are scared or don't understand is harder, because then you (the patient) give up too. They need to be positive and normal. That is what is going to help your friend just as much as the medicines his doctors will give him!

thanks! well he's fine now thankfully Report It

Hodgkin's disease is unfortunately a malignant disease of lymphatic system which will pass in 4 stages ,usually first 2 stages are hopefully but the second 2 stages are difficult to cure totally

Here is where you'll find the best info:

Best wishes

Had it in 92-93. The survival rate back then was 95%.
It's probably improved some since then.

He will definitely have to undergo either chemotherapy, radiation or both depending on its progress and nature.

Neither is a picnic.

Encourage him to stay positive, that's very important.
As treatments progress, they are very difficult to face.

If he loses his apetite, encourage his family and him to try 'Ensure' or even protein shales to try and keep his energy up. That was about the only thing I could choke down.

Treatment will probably last somewhere between 6 months to a year.

If you live in or near Boston, they should gone to the Dana Farber Cancer Institute.
