Anyone affected by?

wondered if anyne is affected by cancer? I'm currently having treatment for hodgkin's disease and usually fairly upbeat about thiings but having a bit of a down day today.

Sorry to hear you are having a bad time.

I've a daughter due to go in for an operation after scans revealed suspect black spots so we know a little of the concern you must be having.

Occasional depression is normal but hopefully things will improve for you soon. Keep active as depression worsens if you don't.

Start a list of things you aim to do - a forward list of goals or treats you want to enjoy. look forward rather than back and feel free to chat with anyone who remains upbeat - don't surround yourself with those who darken your mood still further.

Are you religious at all?

You poor thing. My Mum was diagnosed with breast cancer, had the operation, chemo and radiotherapy and remained so upbeat through the whole thing I am SO PROUD of her. She remained so positive and it really helped her through. I'm sure she had her down days but she never let it show, even when she lost all her hair (including eyelashes and eyebrows) or when she put on weight. Keep smiling - there are people who love you - talk to your friends and family and get the support you need to help you though this. Good luck and take care.

I do not suffer, but my grandmother died of cancer and so have a few of my friends.

You are a fighter, and sure you will have your down times (like now), but you have to remember to pick yourself up dust yourself down and say "WHO'S NEXT?"....I know you will go far.

Not now I'm not but I have had cervical cancer in the past. My best friend also had Non-hodgkins Lymphoma. You sound like you're doing great - we cant all be happy all of the time - its understandable to get the odd down day but if you start to get down lots then go and chat with your doctors. Your recovery is based as much on your positive outlook as it is on your treatments. I genuinely wish you all the best for a good recovery and a happy life. xxxxx

This is horrible for you, I see you are a young man so you have much to live for and look forward to and to fight for.
I have two very close friends with breast cancer, they are at different stages but doing very well, another close friend has had mouth cancer, which, although terrible, she has beaten and is now clear.
Keep you chin up and keep fighting.

Hang in there. My Dad was given 18 months to live from the date of being diagnosed with Bone Cancer in about 1981. He told the doctors that he was going now-where, and had too much to do still with his life. He wanted to go on holiday to visit family in the UK (we are living in South Africa), buy a new car, and improve his gold. He did all of the above and more! He died at age 70 in 2003! He always stayed positive, played golf, drank beer (which he said was his cure!) and generally never gave up. It was only in the last months that he lost the fight. But he always said - "It's mind over matter", and he proved that his will was stronger than the doctors predicted. Good luck and be positive. I have had chronic lymphocetic leukemia for the past eight years Icontinue to live as normal a life as possible as I find this is the only way to cope and refuse to allow the disease to dictate the quality of my life.Human nature being what it is it is inevitable we will feel down at times but keep fighting life is very sweet

Sorry to hear of your illness I believe almost everyone knows of or has had someone affected with a cancer in some form or other & I never know what to say,but it does make me think how lucky I am at present not to be in that situation I only wish there was more we could do besides donating to the cause,try & keep as well as you can we hope a cure is found soon.

i don have cancer but my nan and 2 gramps (one great grandad) died from cancer, i dont know which type but my living grandad has just finished his course of chemo and is now starting radio therapy for nonhodgkins lymphoma.

keep ur chin up hun they said my gramps has had it head to toe for about 10 years already and he didnt even know he had it til about 6 months ago

Everyone has down days. It is ok. Sometimes you need to think or talk about the negative just to get it off your mind. It helps. Once you get the negative thoughts gone then you can concentrate on positive thoughts.
Make a list of things you like doing or want to do. Not just a list of things you want to do when you are cured but things you can do now. Only put positive things on your list. Work at completing your list even on bad days. It will help you feel better.
Make a list of things you are grateful for. Like your parents, siblings, a sun rise. Keep the list handy. If you have a couple of down days, look at the list. It will remind you of what you fighting for.
The treatments can be really rough true. I wont lie and say they are easy but remember Hodgkin's disease is not an automatic death sentence it was 40 yrs ago when my cousin had it.
You are strong and have a positive outlook. You will get better.

Everyone in this world knows someone who has cancer or who been affected by cancer. By Step-Dad had cancer he passed away three years ago,I went through everything with him mum cared for 24 hours 7 days a week! He felt down some days but he done things to Cheer him up! It hard I no. I have lung cancer Had my lung removed in July. I have a lot of depression along with it. Do they have any support groups in your area? When you are diagnosed with a disease like ours people sometimes stay away, I think they just don't know what to say or how to deal with it. Cancer is hard to handle and we need all the support we can get...Has your Dr talked to you about "chemo brain"? It is an actual condition from the chemotherapy? I was put on anti-depressants and they are helping. please try to find something or someone to help you. The cancer alone is hard enough to deal with.

Hi there, I was diagnosed with Breast Cancer last year and have just now finished all treatment. I went from 3c to survivor. Throughout my treatment, I remained upbeat and always believed I could beat this big C. Take a day to be down - you deserve it. I still have moments, as I still have a few more surgeries to go through, where I am really down but try hard to look for the bright side. You too can get through this. Do something for yourself and only for you today - make yourself see the brighter side.

Keep your chin up, I have had 2 experiences of cancer one of my mother who died of lukemia almost 10 years ago, And me on the other hand Im currently in remmsion, I was diagnosed wth Thyroid cancer last year, but im all well and good now, I had a couple of operations and radiotherapy,

They are loads of support groups out there, Your oncologist will have a list of these

My son has been off treatment for a Wilms Tumor (kidney tumor) for 9 months. He just saw the oncologist today and everything is still clear.

My hubby was treated for hodgekins in 1997. He is considered cured today.

You will do fine. Have faith in your medical team.
